Kansas State Fair

Monday was cheap day at the state fair, so I excused Caedmon from school for the afternoon so we could go. Hey, the fair is very educational right?
We arrived in Hutchinson around 1:00, and I guess summer decided to make a return visit around the same time. It was HOT and HUMID! Hot and humid like we stepped out of the car and were instantly sticky and sweaty and felt like we needed to change our underwear kind of hot and humid. Add to that lots of hot and dirty pavement, some stinky animals, cranky carnies, and now I know why Jake "couldn't get the afternoon off" to come with us ; )
Anyway, we toughed it out for a few hours and enjoyed riding some kiddie-rides, petting some animals, watching some sheep shearing, and eating some snow-cones. And while it was too hot to enjoy any of the yummy fried food, a bit stressful trying to keep my eye on two moving targets the entire time, and not even vaguely resembling the fair of my youth (the Flying Elephant just doesn't quite do it for me the way the Zipper does, you know?), we actually had a pretty good time. The price was right = free, the rides were cheap = 1 ticket, and the company was priceless : )

Pilot and copilot : )

watch out, they spit!

the view from the top of the carousel - you really can see forever here in KS when you get above that tree line!

Caedmon LOVES rides! he got yelled at by a carnie for trying to stand up with no hands during a ride (i have no idea why he thought to try this...) and also by me a few times as he inched too close to the little doors on this ride.

again, pilot and his co
hold on Addi!!!

the flying elephant ride - she had to sit on my lap because the seats were so hot they were burning her little legs!

cowboy Caedmon

finally some refreshment! can you see how pink her little cheekies are?!

Next year we'll just be sure to ask Daddy and our dearly missed friend Autumn to join us for cheap fair day!
